Guidelines for Posting Announcements to Blackboard Listservs

Information appears as an announcement in Blackboard.  Announcements should be current within 30 days.  Posters should create a title and 2-3 sentence (max) description.  If additional information is needed, you can either 1) link to an attachment or 2) link to a course content item in the Blackboard site.  

Undergraduate Listserv

Formal Name/Location: College of Education Undergraduate Student Community (Blackboard)

How are students enrolled on this listserv?  

Each semester, the Director of IT’s Office de-enrolls all students and re-enrolls all College of Education undergraduate students who are currently registered in at least 1 credit hour of coursework.

Who manages the list?

Director of Undergraduate Studies (Janet Distel)

How should requests be made to send something to the list?

Direct your request to the Director of Undergraduate Studies.   In order to avoid overwhelming our students with emails and announcements, the Director may elect to compile requests into a single notification.  Please allow for 1 week advanced notice for your message to be sent.  The Director reserves the right to refuse any messages/requests or provide an alternate means of distributing your information (e.g. public meeting, display on digital signage, web posting).  


Graduate Listserv

Formal Name/Location: College of Education Graduate Student Community (Blackboard)

How are students enrolled on this listserv?

Faculty/Staff Listserv

Formal Name/Location: Education Email Community (Blackboard)

How are full time faculty and staff enrolled on this listserv?  

When a new faculty or staff person is hired, the College HR Specialist (Joyce Neal) informs the Director of IT, who enrolls that person in:

    • Education Email Community and appropriate sub-groups
    • College of Education Community and appropriate sub-groups

How are part-time, adjunct faculty, and graduate teaching associates enrolled on this listserv?  

Generally, about the third week of the semester, the Director of IT requests a list of current Adjunct and GTA instructors from each Office Manager in each Department.  Once that list is compiled, all previously enrolled part-time faculty are removed from the list and the new list of active instructors is added to the community and the appropriate group.

How should requests be made to send something to the list?

Direct your request to the most-appropriate authorized sender from the list provided above.  If you are uncertain who to ask, send your request to the Director of IT.  Requests may need to be approved by the Dean or Vice Dean prior to being distributed to the listserv.  In order to avoid sending out multiple messages in a single day or week, were possible, messages will be combined.    Please allow for 1 week advanced notice for your message to be sent.  Authorized users reserve the right to refuse any messages/requests or provide an alternate means of distributing your information (e.g. public meeting, display on digital signage, web posting).
