TUteach: How To Guides and Technology Support

Transferring and Saving Your Videos

After you have signed out a video camera from Barton Hall and videotaped your teaching episode, you should complete the following:

  1. Download your video at the computer station in Barton Hall saving one copy to the TU Teach program archives and another to your portable “PIN” drive. For assistance, see How to Record and Transfer Your Files [pdf].
  2. Return the camera to inventory in Barton Hall
  3. For immediate viewing of the episode use the other computer stations in Barton Hall or your personal computer
  4.  After you have self evaluated your performance, schedule a meeting with your instructor so you can review the teaching episode together
  5. Two labs are available in the College of Education for you to edit your videos (ECC Computer Lab,  RH310, Lab A and Lab B); decide with your instructor on the “clips” from the teaching episode that you will save for your class presentations and the TU Teach ePortfolios and edit the video as necessary.

Viewing Your Video Files

On some computers, your video files will open without problem in Real Media Player or other media software. However, if you find you are having difficulty with viewing or play back of your videos, we recommend you download and install the free VLC player. This lite media player installs quickly and supports a wide range of video formats, including those from the Sony Handycams.

Editing Your Videos: Help with Pinnacle Studio 12

Pinnacle Studio 12 is a simple video editing software that will allow you to extract highlights or "clips" from your videos and add title screens and other simple text. You can use Pinnacle Studio in Lab A of the Education Computing Center (ECC - Ritter Hall RM 310). Be sure to identify yourself as a TUteach student to the attendant on duty to get priority seating in this lab.

We highly recommend you plan on either attending one of the training sessions offered during the semester or review the video introduction to Pinnacle Studio before you begin. You can access the video introduction on any computer where Pinnacle Studio is installed by going to the Pinnacle Studio menu and selecting "Guided Tour." Below are some additional resources available online.
