Updates to Emeritus/Adjunct/Graduate Office Computers

The goal for summer 2008 is to update all Emeritus/Adjunct/Graduate office computers to a minimum Pentium 4 computer with 2.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, and 60GB hard drive. For some offices, this will mean only upgrading the RAM (memory). For others, we will be refurbishing computers formerly used in Faculty and Staff offices.

In addition to upgrading computers, all CRT monitors will be replaced with flat panels (17in), and printers will be upgraded as needed.

Shared Computers

Many of the computers in Emeritus/Adjunct/Graduate offices are shared by 2 or more users. In order to secure files and allow for customization, each user is required to have a unique login (username and password) to access the computer. Some computers were formally setup with "general" logins shared by many users. As we replace and upgrade computers this summer, we will convert them to only accept unique logins. If you do not already have a user access account for your office computer, one will be created for you.

Saving Files and Data

We recommend users in Emeritus/Adjunct/Graduate offices do not save documents and files to the local computer. Instead, your unique login will give you access to your Personal drive (P://) on the College server. This server space provides you with secure, backed-up storage space for your files and documents. And files saved to this location can be accessed on any computer connected via the Temple network, so if your office changes or your computer is swapped, you'll still be able to access all your data.

For this upgrade project, you should plan on saving your current data either to the P: drive or backing up to a USB flash drive or other media. NO DATA will be transferred to your new/upgraded computer.
