Frequently Asked Questions About Commencement

Below are answers to frequently asked questions and informational links.

Must I respond to attend the College of Education Doctoral Hooding and Diploma Conferral?

Yes. In order for your name to be announced you must register.

Are tickets required for my guests to attend the University ceremony at the Liacouras Center?

Yes. Please see the new Temple University website for information. You must submit your online request no later than March 28th, 2008.

Are tickets required for my guests, to attend the Doctoral Hooding and Diploma Conferral Ceremony?

Tickets are not required for the College of Education Doctoral Hooding and Diploma Conferral Ceremony. We ask that you limit your guests to five (5).

Will I receive announcements?

College of Education Announcements

Eligible graduates who select to attend the College ceremony will receive five (5) College of Education courtesy announcements. College of Education announcements will be sent automatically via U.S. mail upon receiving your registration.

University Commencement Announcements

You can also receive five (5) Commencement announcements. They may be obtained in the Office of Student Services, Ritter Annex-150.

Additional Announcements

Additional University Commencement announcements will be sold in packages of twenty-five at any of the Temple University Bookstores for $19.98 per package through Saltus Press.

Herff Jones is also marketing personalized announcements made available online. Please stop in the Bookstore for details.

If I received my diploma in August or January will my name be announced?

Yes. Should you choose to attend your name will be called and you will be handed a scroll.

Must I purchase academic regalia?

The wearing of academic regalia (cap/tassel/gown/hood) is required for participation in the University commencement and College ceremonies.

How do I purchase academic regalia?

Ambler Campus Students:

You must pre-order your academic regalia at the Ambler Bookstore in Bright Hall, by April 10th. Please contact the Ambler Bookstore. If you require additional information, please call: 215-283-1373.

Main Campus Students:

Academic regalia must be paid for and picked up at the Main Campus Bookstore from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the following dates: April 7th-10th and May 19th-21st. It is important that you pick up your regalia on campus before graduation day.

Prices for the complete regalia package are as follows: Bachelor $55.98, Master $58.98, Doctor $72.98.

What if I choose not to attend the ceremony?

Diplomas will be available with photo ID from the Office of Student Services, Ritter Annex-150, Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., starting on Friday, May 23rd and on any workday thereafter. 

How do I receive my diploma if I am unable to attend either the ceremony or come into the Office of Student Services?

Your diploma can be mailed. There is an $8.30 mailing fee, which must be paid to the Bursar's Office in Carnell Hall. You then must bring the receipt to the Office of Student Services, Ritter Annex-150. Should you select this option, your diploma will be sent by certified mail approximately one week after graduation. The diploma will be sent to the address indicated on your graduation application.

Are there College of Education awards?

Yes. Awards are presented in May at a College Awards ceremony. The Awards Ceremony time and location will be announced soon. . See a list of awards conferred each year.
