Frequently Asked Questions About Commencement

Below are answers to frequently asked questions and informational links.

Must I respond to attend the College of Education Graduation Ceremony?

Yes. In order for your name to be announced you must register.

Are tickets required for my guests to attend the University ceremony at the Liacouras Center?

Yes. All guests are required to have tickets for admission to the Liacouras Center. Students who have already requested their tickets through the University's Commencement web site, may pick up their ordered tickets beginning at noon on May 1through noon on May 14 in the Student Resource Center, Ritter Annex 150. At that time, you may also pick-up your tickets, parking pass and announcements. All students must present proper ID.

Please be advised that after noon May 14, tickets not picked up will be subject to redistribution.

Are tickets required for my guests, to attend the Bachelor's and Master's Graduation Ceremony?

No. Tickets are not required for the College of Education Graduation Ceremony.

Will I receive announcements?

College of Education Announcements

Eligible graduates who select to attend the College ceremony will receive five (5) College of Education courtesy announcements. You may pick up your announcements with your University Commencement tickets or at the College of Education ceremony on May 22, 2008.

University Commencement Announcements

You can also receive five (5) Commencement announcements. They may be obtained in the Student Resource Center, Ritter Annex, RM 150.

To receive your University Commencement announcements by mail, please send two first-class postage stamps and your name and address to:

Additional Announcements

Additional University Commencement announcements will be sold in packages of twenty-five at any of the Temple University Bookstores for $19.98 per package through Saltus Press.

If I received my diploma in August or January will my name be announced?

Yes. Should you choose to attend your name will be called and you will be handed a symbolic scroll.

Must I purchase academic regalia?

The wearing of academic regalia (cap/tassel/gown/hood) is required for participation in the University Commencement. However, please note that it is not required for the College's Bachelor's and Master's ceremony. Most graduates do choose to wear academic regalia to the College ceremony.

How do I purchase academic regalia?

All necessary items are available for purchase on-line at www.temple.edu/bookstore. To order your cap and gown click here. 

Academic regalia must be paid for and picked up at the Main Campus Bookstore from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the following dates: April 7th-10th and May 19th-21st. It is important that you pick up your regalia on campus before graduation day.

Prices for the complete regalia package are as follows: Bachelor $55.98, Master $58.98, Doctor $72.98.

Ship orders will incur an additional $13.50 shipping fee.

What if I choose not to attend the ceremony?

Diplomas will be mailed to all May 2008 graduates in June, once all degree requirements have been verified.

Are there College of Education awards?

Yes. Awards are presented in May at a College Awards ceremony. The Awards Ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 21st at 4:00 PM, Walk Auditorium, Ritter Hall, 1st floor. See a list of awards conferred each year.

Does the College of Education provide an opportunity for a student to address the graduating class?

Yes. The College invites one bachelor's candidate and one master's candidate to speak at the College of Education Graduation Ceremony. To qualify for this honor, you must meet the following criterion:

  • A minimum GPA of 3.00 (for undergraduates) and a 3.5 (for graduate students).
  • Excellent verbal skills
  • Be an August 2007, January 2008, or May 2008 graduate.
  • Provide recommendations from two (2) faculty members

Applications should include a writing sample, your reasons for wanting to speak, and a copy of your resume. This information along with the names of two (2) faculty references should be e-mailed to Ms. Petra Ortiz (ortizpm@temple.edu) on or before Friday, May 2nd. You may also drop off hard copies to the Student Resource Center.
