Greetings August 2005 and Prospective January 2006 Graduates:

To honor you for the completion of your academic program the College of Education has scheduled its Bachelor's and Master's Diploma Conferral Ceremony to take place on Friday, January 27, 2006,in McGonigle Hall, Broad and Montgomery, Philadelphia, PA, 1:30 p.m. Your relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Registration Deadline to attend the Ceremony is Tuesday, December 20, 2005.

Below are answers to frequently asked questions and informational links.

Must I respond to attend the College of Education Diploma Conferral?

Yes. In order for your name to be announced and receive your diploma you must register online at: www.temple.edu/education/graduation

Are tickets required for my guests, and how many guests may attend?

Tickets are not required for the College of Education Diploma Conferral Ceremony. There is no limit to the number of guests that can attend.

Will I receive announcements?

Students who select to attend will receive 5 courtesy announcements. Announcements are not required for guests to be admitted to the College of Education ceremony.

If I received my diploma in August will my name be announced?

Yes. Should you choose to attend your name will be called and you will be handed a symbolic envelope. Please contact the Office of Student Services if you would like to return you diploma and have it handed to you at the ceremony.

Must I purchase academic regalia?

The wearing of academic regalia (cap/tassel/gown/hood) is not required for participation in the College of Education ceremony. However, please note that it is required for the University commencement in May.

How do I purchase academic regalia?

Ambler Campus Students:

You must pre-order your academic regalia at the Ambler Bookstore in Bright Hall, from November 7, 2005 through December 30, 2005. Please contact the Ambler Bookstore. Iif you require additional information, please call: 215-283-1373.

Main Campus Students:

You do not have to pre-order your academic regalia. You may purchase your academic regalia at the Main Campus Bookstore beginning January 9, 2006. Please contact the Main Campus Bookstore if you require additional information, at 215-204-4505.

What if I choose not to attend the ceremony?

Diplomas will be available with photo ID from the Office of Student Services, Ritter Addition 238, Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., starting on January 27 th and on any workday thereafter.

How do I receive my diploma if I am unable to attend either the ceremony or come into the Office of Student Services?

Your diploma can be mailed. There is a $7.35 mailing fee, which must be paid to the Bursar’s Office in Carnell Hall. You then must bring the receipt to the Office of Student Services, Ritter Addition 238. Should you select this option you will receive your diploma in the mail approximately one week after graduation. The diploma will be mailed to the address indicated on your graduation application.

If I participate in the January ceremony will I be able to attend the May programs?

Yes. Participation in the January ceremony does not exclude you from taking part in the events held in May. Information regarding the Thursday, May 18, 2006 ceremonies will be mailed to you at a later date.

Are there College of Education awards?

Yes. Awards are presented in May at a College Awards ceremony. See a list of awards conferred each year.

Does the College of Education provide an opportunity for a student to address the graduating class?

Yes. The criterion for this honor follows:

  • Undergraduate nominees must have a minimum GPA of 3.00
  • Graduate nominees must have a minimum GPA of 3.5
  • Leadership role in or personal accomplishment of constructive social and/or educational impact either within or outside the University community
  • Excellent verbal skills
  • Must be an August 2005 or January 2006 graduate.
  • Length of remarks shall not exceed five minutes.
  • Recommendations from 2-3 College of Education faculty members

Applications should include either a writing sample or a draft of the address you would like to deliver and a copy of your resume. This information along with faculty recommendations should be e-mailed to Mrs. Donna Edwards at dedwards@temple.edu on or before December 20.
