My research focuses primarily on ethical leadership, and on gender, diversity and accountability issues in education.  I have co-authored a number of books including: Reframing Diversity in Education (Rowman & Littlefield, 2002); Gender in Urban Education: Strategies for Student Achievement (Heinemann, 2004); Ethical Educational Leadership in Turbulent Times: (Re)Solving Moral Dilemmas (Erlbaum, 2008); and Ethical Leadership and Decision Making in Education: Applying Theoretical Perspectives to Complex Dilemmas (3rd ed.) (Routledge, 2011). I have also published many journal articles and book chapters.

 

I believe in merging scholarship with service and teaching.  Hence, previously, I served as Associate Dean for Research and as Chair of the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Department at Temple. Additionally, I have been Co-Director of Women’s Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, taught in secondary schools in the United States and United Kingdom, and supervised intern teachers. Currently, I am the Vice President of Temple University’s Faculty Senate and the Co-Founder of the educational international movement, the New DEEL (Democratic Ethical Educational Leadership. Most recently, I have been honored to receive the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award, the University Council of Educational Administration’s Master Professor Award and Temple University’s Great Teacher Award.
