Areas of Professional Interest

  • Dr. Vivian Ikpa is an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.  She has held positions as;  policy analyst at the United States Department of Education;  director of the Center for Education Policy Research;  k-12 classroom teacher;   researcher/ faculty member/ administrator at universities in Virginia, Maryland, Florida, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She is the co-author of two  recent books that examine achievement gaps among disadvantaged and non-disadvantage students attending urban schools. Currently,  Dr. Ikpa is co-editor of a book series focused on research, policy and practice as related to the achievement gap. She continues to be involved in education policy research initiatives  that explore the impact of  changes in selected school  characteristics on student performance.   She has presented her research at more than 100 conferences around the globe and completed 50 publications. She also studied comparative politics at the Salzburg Institute - University of Vienna, Austria.  Dr. Ikpa teaches policy  and leadership courses in the department.
