2010 Commencement Awards
The 2010 College of Education Commencement Awards Ceremony honored a number of students along with Dr. Joseph Rosenfeld, a longtime professor and new retiree.
The awards distributed at the ceremony were as follows:
-Benjamin Banneker Award – Awarded to a student who has worked as a research assistant prior to the year of the award. Showed outstanding work and initiative in carrying out research activities. Maintained a 3.50 GPA or better.
-Dr. John G. Finch Award in Technology – Awarded to the most outstanding member of the graduating class who shows promise in the use of technology as a teacher.
-Loretta M. Kaltz Endowed Award – Awarded to a graduating student majoring in Spanish Education who have academic excellence and financial need, with preference given to students intending to teach in the School District of Philadelphia.
-Susan R. Leventhal Memorial Award – Awarded to a student who demonstrates their joy of communicating and working with elementary level students as evidenced in student-teaching and in other related activities.
-L. Waldo Rich Award – Awarded to the most outstanding undergraduate or graduate student member of the graduating class majoring in secondary education/mathematics. A minimum GPA of 3.5 is required.
-Dr. Elton Robertson Award in Technology – Awarded to the most outstanding member of the graduating class who shows promise in the use of technology as a teacher.
-Benjamin Verdile Alumni Service Award – Awarded to a graduate or undergraduate member of the graduating class judged to have performed the most outstanding service in the interest of the College of Education and/or the University.
-Student Ambassadors Award – Awarded to those students who play a significant role in events sponsored by the College of Education.
The following students were also presented with awards:
-Student Teacher of the Year - Jennifer Rosen
-Teacher Education Graduate in Elementary Education/Early Childhood - Grace L. Barlett
-Teacher Education Graduate in Secondary Education - JacQueline Palmer
-Teacher Education Graduate in Special Education - Kristen Cook
-Teacher Education Graduate in Career and Technical Education - Angela Reichert
-Dr. Dick Malnati Award – Rachel Cawley for School Counseling, Elena Wilson for Agency, Diane Smith is for Agency with a focus on Mental Health School Counseling.
-The College of Education Dissertation Award – Matthew L. Bernacki for his dissertation entitled "The Influence of Self-Regulated Learning and Prior Knowledge on Knowledge Acquisition in Computer-Based Learning Environments."
