Message from the Dean

dean mcguire The college is on the move, so says our marketing material and so say all who have witnessed the infusion of energy and drive that have characterized the work of the faculty and staff over the last three years. Planning, restructuring and capacity building have created opportunities to take on challenges we never could have envisioned just a short time ago, challenges including producing highly skilled teachers and education professionals for city schools, attracting high quality young and mid-career scholars who are adding to the knowledge base on urban school reform and student achievement and substantially increasing our research productivity.

We are moving towards:

  • New relationships with city and regional schools to ensure high quality preparation for our pre-service teachers.
  • Program by program and department by department strategic planning.
  • Newly redesigned administrative infrastructure.
  • Greatly expanded technology infrastructure.
  • Upgraded classrooms, major renovations of math and science teaching spaces.
  • Added capacity to communicate effectively with various constituencies, including students, university faculty, clinical faculty in the field, alumni and other interested parties.
  • Strong and growing infrastructure to support our research mission as a result of extending the resources of the college’s research centers to the faculty.
  • A stronger, more prominent role in city and statewide policy decisions and policy making.
  • A renewed commitment to urban education.

The college is on the move.  We invite you to join us as we move ahead.
