Victor
K. Schutz Scholarship in Electrical and Computer Engineering
A scholarship fund has been established for students pursuing an undergraduate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Department. The scholarship is named for Victor K. Schutz, PhD, Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the Department, who demonstrated his commitment to undergraduate Engineering education at Temple University for over 24 years through his teaching and mentorship. Alumni and friends who wish to contribute to this scholarship fund should contact the College Development Officer at 215-204-2537 or via email.
Mission Statement
The Mission Statement of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering presents the educational objectives of the undergraduate curriculum and its evaluation to our constituencies. A reading of the Mission Statement conveys the spirit that embodies undergraduate education throughout Temple University since its inception by Dr. Russell Conwell in 1888.
About the Department
The Department of
Electrical and Computer Engineering and the College of Engineering trace their
roots to the Temple
University Technical
Institute, which provided quality technology education to support the burgeoning electro technology industries of the 1940s
and 1950s in the Delaware Valley. The formation of a College spurred the
offering of a four year bacc
alaureate program in Engineering Technology in
the 1960s. The Department was the first undergraduate program in the
region to teach undergraduate engineering technologists the new integrated
circuit microprocessor, in the 1970s, using a device developed locally: the MOS
Technology (Norristown) 6502. Baccalaureate and graduate Engineering
programs were first offered in the 1980s and initial Doctorate was granted in
the early 1990s.
The undergraduate student body is well represented by diverse minorities, with
access to the classrooms, laboratories, library and the Faculty in the new Main
Campus College building. Graduate and professional students commingle at
the Fort Washington Campus. Come experience the heritage of professional
education from the Temple Technical Institute now to the College of Engineering.
From the Chair
Welcome to the web presence of the
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Temple University! We
are very proud of both our student and Faculty accomplishments and invite you to
browse this we
b site to view some of these achievements (see News).
Faculty research includes, but is not limited to, intelligent tutoring systems,
system-on-chip design, speech quality measurement, and fault tolerant computer
communication networks (see Research).
Our students and Faculty have appeared in the many forms of the media, from the Philadelphia Inquirer and the New York Times, the local radio and television broadcast news, and the national Nightly News of ABC. Our accredited undergraduate curriculum in Electrical Engineering is very strong, as evidenced by the excellent employment that our graduates obtain. In addition, the Department offers a new undergraduate option in Computer Engineering (see Undergraduate).
The Department offers the MSEE and PhD graduate degrees (see Graduate) and Professional Continuing Education certificate programs in focused electro technology areas (see Professional). If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you for visiting our web site!
Sincerely,
Saroj Biswas, Chair
