Approval to Take Courses at Another Institution
Declaration of Major Policy
Students admitted to Temple for fall 2002 and after must be enrolled as a major in a degree-granting program in a school or college by the time they have completed 60 credits, including any credits transferred from another institution.
Students admitted to Temple with 60 or more transfer credits will be matriculated directly into a degree-granting program, rather than as "undeclared" in a school or college or the Division of University Studies.
Students declare a major either by completing their school's or college's declaration of major process (see specific school or college section of the Undergraduate Bulletin) or by completing an intra-university transfer to another Temple school or college (see Transfer Between Colleges Within the University in the Undergraduate Bulletin).
Individual schools and colleges may require students to declare a major earlier than 60 credits. Students should consult the policies and regulations of their own school/college for any additional guidelines regarding declaration of major.

How to Declare a Major: The IUT Policy (Intra-University Transfer)
University Studies students can declare majors throughout the year (except in January and August) in accordance with the declaration of major standards set forth by the individual schools and colleges and the IUT guidelines established by the University.
Most students feel ready to declare a major between 15-45 credits. Students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor each semester to discuss course selections, major interest areas, and specific requirements their school or college of interest might have.
Beginning Fall 2002, students may stay in University Studies students up to the completion of 60 credits. Upon completing of 60 credits, any student not enrolled as a major in a degree-granting program will not be permitted to register until he or she has been admitted or provisionally admitted to a degree granting program.
The IUT forms may be picked up from the University Studies advising office (1810 Liacouras Walk, Suite 101) or retrieved online from the Senior Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies website. They need to be completed and submitted to the new school or college academic advising center. The new school or college will determine if the student is acceptable or not and inform the student of their decision.
For students who would like to IUT to University Studies: University Studies advises students interested in both Pre-Nursing and Pre-Health Information Management. University Studies also works with students who would like to reconsider their choice of major and become undeclared (within the acceptable credit limit as determined by the Declaration of Major policy). These students must submit an IUT form to the Academic Resource Center and meet with an academic advisor to discuss these options. Any student who drops off an IUT but does not meet with an advisor, will be sent a letter notifying them of the need to return and meet with an academic advisor to discuss the new declaration before ANY decision can be made regarding their IUT.

Readmission Policy
University Studies students are required to submit an application for readmission after one or more academic-year semester(s) (fall or spring) of non-attendance. Readmission forms can be obtained in the Academic Resource Center. Students who attended another institution during time away from Temple University are required to submit an official transcript(s) from each institution for review before a readmission decision can be made. Students who have received a medical withdrawal must provide medical documentation clearing them to return to school and schedule an interview with an advisor before a readmission decision can be made.

Approval to Take Courses at Another Institution
Once enrolled at Temple, University Studies students interested in taking summer courses from other institutions must complete a petition prior to enrolling in these courses. In order to be considered, the student must have a 2.0 minimum cumulative grade point average and reside outside of commuting distance to Temple (i.e., more than 50 miles from any Temple campus). For full information regarding the policy, please refer to the Request for Permission to Take Courses at Another Institution form on the Senior Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies website. Once the permission form has been completed, the student must submit and review it with an academic advisor. The request will be reviewed and the student will be notified if permission has been approved or denied via OWLnet (in the Advising Sessions under the DARS/Advising tab).
Students can also pick up the permission form and review the process with a University Studies advisor (1810 Liacouras Walk, Suite 101).
