Orientation, Placement Testing and Initial Registration

Orientation, Placement Tests and Initial Registration

Participation in New Student Orientation is mandatory for newly admitted students. Students who require accommodations to participate in the program should make their needs known to both DRS staff and the Office of Orientation at 215-204-8531 or http://www.temple.edu/orientation/ at least two weeks before attending the assigned session.

All first year, and some transfer students, at Temple University are required to sit for a Placement Test in mathematics, writing, and foreign language proficiency.

Securing Accommodations for Your Placement Test

If you are a student with a disability and require reasonable accommodations during orientation and placement testing, follow the 5 easy steps below and let us help you!

  1. Call DRS immediately (telephone number 215 204-1280)
  2. Fax/mail your documentation of disability to DRS, along with your contact information (fax number 215 204-6794)
  3. DRS will contact you to discuss your placement test requirements and any other requirements you may have to participate in University classes/activities
  4. DRS will issue a letter of accommodation to the Measurement and Research Center (MARC). MARC manages placement testing at Temple University.
  5. You will call MARC at 215 204-8611 to arrange a time to complete your placement test with accommodations.

Typically, newly admitted students register for classes after an orientation with their respective school or college.  Advisers are available to assist students in guiding their selection process.  Additionally, course requirements are listed for each major in various University publications.
