Notetaker Service
Although many instructors maintain a set of class notes on Internet websites, copies of individual class notes can often be obtained for disability-related purposes. In situations where students with disabilities have a need to augment class participation with a copy of another person’s notes, DRS uses a system of volunteer notetakers recruited from individual classes to share a copy of class notes. Volunteers are encouraged to take the online tutorial program: http://www.netac.rit.edu/onlinenotetakertraining.html
DRS can assist students who need this service by requesting help from the instructor in recruiting a good quality volunteer. DRS provides carbonless paper and office photocopying. DRS staff requests the name and address of volunteers who share notes to acknowledge assistance and effort. Students whose disability requires a notetaking service that cannot be accommodated with the note sharing system currently in effect, should contact DRS staff early in the semester to discuss alternatives.
