Although DRS staff attempt to work collaboratively with students in facilitating disability-related services, it is possible that misunderstanding or disagreements may arise. If students have difficulty with academic adjustments approved by DRS, they should discuss concerns with the person who initially made the recommendations. If a disagreement about the appropriateness of recommendations continues, they should speak with the DRS Director. Students, who are not able to resolve a problem at DRS, should request an appointment with the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs 215-204-6556. Students can also meet with administrators in the Office of Multicultural Affairs 215-204-7303 (Voice) or 204-6772 (TTY), who handle affirmative action compliance and investigation.
Administrators in the Office of Multicultural Affairs are responsible for assisting the University in complying with civil/affirmative action laws and regulations, including the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA.) The Office supports University programs for access and accommodation. If a problem cannot be resolved through informal investigation, the Office of Multicultural Affairs will receive and investigate a formal, written complaint.

The United States Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is the agency responsible for addressing complaints related to discrimination on the basis of disability. According to OCR suggestions, complaints should be sent in writing explaining:
-
Who was discriminated against
-
In what way
-
By what person or institution
-
When the discrimination took place
-
Who was harmed
-
Who can be contacted for further information
-
Names, addresses, telephone numbers of those involved, with as much background information as possible.
Complaints must be filed within 180 days of the date of the alleged discrimination unless extensions for good cause have been approved by the Regional Civil Rights Director. Since OCR's policies and procedures may change over time, contact the regional office directly and immediately if you have a complaint of discrimination on the basis of disability related to access or accommodations.

If a person has concerns about issues not specifically related to disability, steps available to all students should be followed. Refer to policies and guidelines under Temple University Policy of Equal Opportunity available in the Graduate and Undergraduate Bulletins. Probably the most effective way to solve problems involves recognizing a clear understanding of the problem and expected outcomes. Be certain to focus on concerns around issues that can be addressed. Furthermore, analyze alternative solutions to determine those that are acceptable and unacceptable. Articulate reasons for the choices that were made. In situations that are heavy with emotion, it is often helpful to write an outline of concerns to maintain a clear focus on the pertinent issues to be resolved. Keep summary notes on interactions in order to more accurately recall the sequence of events related to the situation.
