To receive approved accommodations from faculty, students must give the instructor a copy of the accommodation letter prepared by DRS staff, preferably at the start of each semester. This is an ideal opportunity to meet privately and discuss specific accommodations relative to individual course procedures and expectations. Faculty members will not retroactively provide academic adjustments for course requirements in situations where students have not previously presented a letter supporting such requests. Furthermore, faculty will not alter the essential requirements of a course under any circumstance. In most situations, discussion of disability-related needs, and ways to adjust course requirements, can be developed. In the rare situations when resolution does not seem possible, students and faculty are urged to discuss questions with the DRS advisor. Letters detailing specific accommodations and adjustments that have been approved by DRS are available annually in print or electronically by contacting individual DRS advisers.
