Adrian Baule, Graduate Assistant / Colorguard Instructor
Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, Adrian holds a Bachelor's in Music Education from the University of Texas at El Paso where he studied with Dr. Melissa Colgin-Abeln and played with the UTEP Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Marching Band and Basketball Pep Band. Adrian previously held the position of 3rd Flute/Piccolo with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra for 3 years beginning in August 2005. Adrian was also a member of the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestra and has played Principal Flute in the UTEP Nutcracker Orchestra (2006) and was Principal Flute of La Orquesta Sinfonica de la UACJ (2006 season). Adrian has also played with the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra and Roswell Symphony Orchestra.
Adrian was a three time consecutive winner of the UTEP Annual Concerto and Aria Competition (2005-2007) and was a soloist with the UTEP Symphony Orchestra. Adrian was also the Grand Prize winner of the 2007 EPSYO's Concerto Competition and performed the Ibert Flute Concerto with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra. Before moving to Philadelphia in August 2008, Adrian was the Assistant Band Director at Jefferson/Silva High School in El Paso, Texas.
Adrian also holds a great interest in dance and theatre. Adrian was a member of The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps Color Guard in 2003 and 2004 and was a member of the UTEP Ballet as a scholarship recipient dancing in various productions including The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and in the El Paso Opera's production of Samson and Delilah. Adrian also appeared in the UTEP Dinner Theatre's productions of Chicago and Jesus Christ Superstar in Concert. Adrian Baule has been a member of the 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009 casts of the Outdoor Theatre Musical/Dance production of VIVA El Paso!
Adrian Baule is currently pursuing his Master's Degree in Flute Performance at Temple University where he studies with David Cramer and is a Graduate Assistant to the Temple Diamond Marching Band and Basketball Band. Adrian recently was selected as runner up in the Temple Annual Solo Concerto Contest and performed Mike Mower´s Concerto for Flute and Wind Orchestra with the Temple University Wind Symphony.
Brian Rascon, Graduate Assistant
Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, Brian Rascon graduated from Central Washington University with a Bachelors of Music Education degree in the spring of 2009. While at CWU, Brian had the opportunity to play principal trumpet in both the University Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, as well as work with the marching band as a marching and drill instructor. Brian has been invited to perform as a soloist and ensemble member at the National Trumpet Competition held in Fairfax, VA, and also performed frequently as a member of the Yakima Symphony Orchestra. His main teachers have included Dr. Brian Chin, Dr. Mark Babbitt, and Mr. John Harbaugh. He is entering the Master of Music in Trumpet Performance degree program where he will be a student of Mr. David Bilger.
Dorothy Valencia, Diamond Marching Band Percussion Instructor
Percussionist since the age of 10 and teacher for the last 3 years in Philadelphia area music schools, Dorothy Valencia is a versatile musician in many areas including: orchestral music, marching band, jazz, Latin, chamber, and solos. Her mentors are Alan Abel and Angela Zator-Nelson of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Before receiving her Masters Degree in Percussion Performance from Temple University under the Philadelphia professors, Dorothy earned her Bachelor's Degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Arkansas under Prof. Chalon Ragsdale, where she spent four years in the Razorback marching band, two of those as pit leader. Her honors as a bandsman include: the John Philip Sousa Bandsman award, Outstanding Freshman Female award, Band Spirit Award, and the Lifetime Acheivement Award for Meritorious Band Service.
She has served as Principal Percussionist for the Youth Orchestra of the Americas on their latest European Tour, as well as Section Percussionist for the National Orchestral Institute at the University of Maryland. Dorothy dreams of one day playing in a full-time orchestra, and is active on the professional audition circuit.
Dorothy lives in Philadelphia with her husband, also a teacher and percussionist. Together they enjoy cooking, listening to music, learning, and actively pursuing their art together.

David Payne, Diamond Marching Band Announcer |
David Payne first served as Diamond Band announcer during his senior year at Temple in 1984. After returning several times in an interim capacity, David became the band's full-time announcer in 2002. David is a 1985 Temple graduate with a B.A. in Communications. A Philadelphia native, David currently resides in Harrisburg, PA, where he works as an HIV educator and outreach coordinator for the AIDS Community Alliance of South Central Pennsylvania.
