Arthur D. Chodoroff is Professor of Music, Chair of the Department of Instrumental Ensembles and Orchestral Studies, Director of Bands and conductor of the Temple University Wind Symphony in the Esther Boyer College of Music at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a part of his duties as department chair, Prof. Chodoroff oversees the Temple University Symphony Orchestra and instrumental lesson, chamber music and ensemble programs. In addition to teaching courses in instrumental conducting and woodwinds methods, Professor Chodoroff has also conducted concerts with the Chamber Orchestra and Wind Ensemble.

A native of Philadelphia, Mr. Chodoroff is a graduate of Central High School, the University of Michigan, from which he holds the degree of Bachelor of Music in Education (with Distinction), and Temple University where he earned the degree of Master of Music in clarinet performance. Mr. Chodoroff was a clarinet student of Joseph Gigliotti, Donald Montanaro, and William Stubbins, and a conducting student of Elizabeth A. H. Green. Before his appointment as Director of Bands in 1977, Professor Chodoroff was a graduate assistant and then Assistant Director with the Temple University Bands. Prior to that time, he served as a high school and elementary instrumental music teacher.

In December 1997, the second compact disc to be recorded by the Temple University Wind Symphony was released. In its review of this recording on the Albany Records label (catalogue number Troy 271), the American Record Guide calls the Wind Symphony “a truly first-rate wind ensemble.” Fanfare Magazine says that the “group is a crack ensemble, one of the best in the country.” Professor Chodoroff and the Wind Symphony previously recorded as one of six university bands in the United States selected to be a part of Toshiba-EMI Ltd's Masterpiece Series. The Wind Symphony has performed by invitation on several occasions for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and the Eastern Division of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), as well as for the Eastern Division of the Music Educators National Conference.

Professor Chodoroff has guest conducted numerous high school honors groups, including the Pennsylvania All-State Band and the Bucks County Music Educators Association Honors Orchestra, and has also appeared as guest conductor with the Concerto Soloists Concert Band, the Bucks County Community Band, the Mercer County Community Band, and the 553rd Air Force Band. Mr. Chodoroff has presented clinics and sessions for organizations including the PMEA, Eastern MENC, and Eastern Division of the CBDNA. He is extremely active as an adjudicator and has participated in band and orchestra festivals from Montreal to Orlando. He has also recently served as a panelist for the Greenfield Student Competition of The Philadelphia Orchestra and for the Mid-West Young Artists Concerto Competition in Chicago.

Past-president of the Eastern Division of the College Band Directors National Association, Mr. Chodoroff has received awards from Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) and the Temple University College of Music Alumni Association. Prof. Chodoroff is a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda honorary music society and Phi Beta Mu Bandmasters Fraternity. He was selected as one of the 10 outstanding music educators in the nation for 1986-87 by the School Musician Director/Teacher magazine. In April, 1995, he was awarded the Citation of Excellence in higher education teaching by District 12 of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association.

We are pleased to announce that effective July 1, 2008, Matthew Brunner will join our faculty as Director of Athletic Bands.
