Charles Zeanah, PhD


Charles Zeanah is a Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at Tulane University School of Medicine. In addition, he is a child and adolescent psychiatrist, Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology, and serves as the director of Tulane Institute of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health. Dr. Zeanah received his M.D. from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1977, completed his internship in Pediatrics at the University of Virginia in 1978, and completed residency in general psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center (1980), in child psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine (1982), and was a research fellow in child psychiatry at Stanford University (1984).

His research and clinical interests include the effects of exposure to violence on the development of young children, attachment and its development in high risk environments, risk and protective factors in development, psychopathology in early childhood, and infant-parent relationships.
