New Media Interdisciplinary Concentration

The New Media Interdisciplinary Concentration (NMIC) is an optional specialization for undergraduate students in the School of Communications and Theater. NMIC students major in any of the SCT Departments (including FMA), studying advertising, broadcast, film, journalism, mass communication, public relations or theatre, while taking courses across these disciplines to more deeply explore the expressive and communicative possibilities of digital media and new technologies. NMIC students develop higher-level skills in interactive narrative, physical computing, multimedia authoring, website design, sound technologies, digital photography, e-journalism and more. Faculty projects provide unique in-depth opportunities for NMIC students to work hands-on, in small collaborative groups, developing cutting edge research and new technologies. Find out more at the NMIC website.

Internship Program

The FMA Internship Program provides students with a bridge across the precarious gap between studying media arts as a student and working in media arts fields as a professional, by providing hands-on opportunities in the craft, creative voice and entertainment businesses. The program allows juniors and seniors in good academic standing to receive a maximum of four academic credits gaining introductory experience in the film and new media marketplace. The program helps students identify both short and long-term career goals and career-launching skills for competitively packaging their industry experiences for future employment upon graduation. Interested candidates may apply for enrollment via application and interview.

Los Angeles Program

In addition to local internships, Temple's Film and Media Arts Department offers an internship program each summer in Los Angeles for FMA juniors and seniors. This experience provides the opportunity to explore career ideas, make LA contacts, and develop job hunting strategies in order to get ahead in today's competitive job market. Los Angeles provides hundreds of unique internship and networking opportunities with professionals working in various aspects of the industry. Through the Center's internship program students work on the sets of popular television shows, assist copywriters, and work on developing and producing movies. In addition to the internship, students take a writing-intensive course while in Los Angeles, FMA 391: Hollywood Insider/ Industry Perspectives, taught by Temple University Professor Allan Barber. See the Los Angeles Internship Program website pages for more information and for instruction on how to apply.
