Research activity in the Department of Dental Public Health Sciences is an important priority area and encompasses several different subject areas including: HIV/AIDS, oral cancer and precancer, epidemiology of oral mucosal diseases, mucosal immunology, mathematical modeling of disease etiology, comparative genomics, developing novel information dissemination systems, developing and implementing novel oral health interventions and measurement tools at the community level, advancing educational methods, and impact of socio-cultural-economic factors on health care.
A major goal of the Department is to enhance the quality of research at The Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry by collaborating with investigators in conduct of ongoing studies and in the design of future studies. The Department makes biostatistics, data management, and analysis expertise available to investigators in all phases of research including design, analysis and dissemination of results. Developing theoretical models for disease processes and management also feature prominently in research activities of the Department.
Department faculty are involved in collaborative work with researchers from institutions such as University of North Carolina at Chapel hill, Johns Hopkins University, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Louisiana, Marquette University, NIDCR, NIH, Calcutta University (India), University of North Bengal (India) and Adelaide University (Australia).
