Dear Colleagues, It's been two weeks since I returned from the AAE annual session in San Antonio, TX. It was really a blast to see so many familiar faces in the exhibit halls, in selected courses and at the Alumni reception on Thursday evening. I often comment about how the annual session helps recharge me for another year. Listening to a cutting edge topic or trying out new equipment is always fun. Buying something new for the office is even better! So many of you had great stories to tell about families and friends. Each of you looked particularly happy to be an endodontist despite the economy and the obstacles facing our profession. I am particularly proud to announce that at this meeting Dr. Omar Porras and Dr. Aneel Belani successfully completed the oral examination and were awarded Diplomate status by the ABE. Also, our recent graduate Avedis Encioiu passed the oral examination. He now only needs to submit cases for his award. Congratulations to all of you. You continue to show the endodontic community how Temple shines as a graduate program. We may not be perfect, but we do a pretty good job. But your commitment and hard work is really the cornerstone of your success. We are all very proud of you. As summer nears, we begin the process of oral examination for both classes. This is always a tense few weeks as final preparations begin and the last of the cramming of authors comes to an end. We have scheduled a graduation dinner for our students on July, 14 2011. Some of you have asked about contributing to the building fund for the dental school renovations. The specifics for that program are still developing and I will continue to bring you new information as I get it. More importantly, we need to fund the alumni account from which we help our students. As you know, we continue to use money from the Seltzer Fund to support student research and the purchase of necessary items from time to time. As you can imagine, the interest from this account is not very much these days. We also get support from the manufacturers and suppliers that visit the school and solicit our residents. Companies like Dentsply, Brassler, Global and Zeiss have all contributed to our alumni fund for the annual graduation dinner. I would like to make a request for donations to our alumni fund at this time. Money from this fund helps to cover the cost of the student registration to the annual session ($200 per student), occasional lunches when we bring in a special speaker and breakfast during the Thursday morning student case presentation. Getting money from the Seltzer Fund for these types of events is very difficult. Unfortunately the Alumni account is shrinking and therefore I need your help. In the past many of you have made contributions. I ask that you again consider helping our current students by making a contribution. Any amount is appreciated. Just ask what the program meant to you and what you can do to give back. If it's $100.00 that's great, if it $1,000.00 that's even better. Please help us continue to support our newest colleagues as they finish their educational path. Debt is so high today that every little bit helps. They will remember what you do for them and they will do the same for future classes. You can start the cycle of success and appreciation. So don't just say someone else will do it. Make it your responsibility. Please consider making a contribution to the "Temple Endodontic Alumni Association" and send it to the attention of:
