Vocational Instructional II Certificate (Undergraduate)

Description

The Center provides services that facilitate the awarding of the Pennsylvania Vocational II Certificate. The Vocational I certificate is valid for six years. During this time, career and technical education teachers will complete all the requirements for the Vocational II certificate. The Vocational II certificate is permanent but subject to renewal every five years. It is issued to an applicant who has:

  • completed 3 years of satisfactory teaching on a Vocational I certificate;
  • a certificate validated by the chief school administrator of the approved public or nonpublic school entity in which the most recent service of the applicant was performed;
  • completed 60 credit hours in an approved program in the appropriate field of career and technical education;
  • presented evidence of having passed the appropriate PRAXIS exam (PPST Math I);
  • passed the student teaching assessment using the PDE 430 Evaluation form;
  • completed a Pennsylvania Department of Education approved induction program; and
  • received the recommendation of Temple University.

Professional Work Experience

The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) requires that candidates provide evidence that they have taught a minimum of three years since the issuance of their Vocational Instructional I Certificate. The candidates' employing school district must also confirm their completion of an approved induction program.

Testing

The candidate must take and pass the PRAXIS Series* PPST Math I and complete the PDE 430 Student Teaching evaluation. Passing scores must be on file with the PDE and Temple University at the time of application.

* PRAXIS Scores are valid for 10 years if not applied toward the appropriate level of certification.

How to Apply

To apply for the Vocational II certificate the teacher will complete the PDE 338 G and C. The teacher's school administrator must complete the PDE 338 P. The teacher should provide a copy of the test scores from the PRAXIS II, a copy of the last certificate, official transcripts showing completion of all required courses, and a money order for the fee applicable at the time.

How to Renew

To renew the Vocational Instructional II certificate all requirements under Act 48 must be fulfilled every five years.
