The Emergency Certificate Requirements
(Graduates Only)
Marketing Education (ME)

The Emergency Certificate (Permit) will be issued upon the satisfactory completion or demonstration of all the subject area requirements (refer to Marketing Education Content Requirements). The Emergency Certificate is issued by the employing School District and is valid only for the school year (Academic Year). The Emergency Certificate may be reissued in the subsequent year by the PA Department of Education's Bureau of Certification, at the request of the public school entity, when certain conditions are met.

1. The educator is required to enroll in a state-approved teacher preparation/ certification program which leads to Level I certification in the area(s) for which the emergency permit is granted and complete the requisite coursework each year in accordance with the Candidate Agreement.

2. The educator is required to meet any Pennsylvania testing requirements. The chief school administrator must attest in writing at the time of application that the issuance request is being made on the basis of pending test(s), not credit completion. In this case, the educator is limited to one (1) initial issuance and one (1) re-issuance.

3. It is renewable for another year at the discretion of and on the needs of the school district. Generally, the Emergency Certificate holder will be required by PA Department of Education regulations and the school district to complete a certain number of courses (Credit Hours) in pedagogy towards certification during the emergency period. Renewal of the Emergency Certificate by the school district will normally be contingent upon the successful completion of the required courses towards certification. It is important for the Emergency Certificate holder to note how long she or he can be on an emergency certificate in relation to the required courses for converting to an Intern or Instructional I Certificate.
