Why Choose the Center for Professional Development in Career and Technical Education at Temple?

Temple is one of three universities in Pennsylvania that provide a non-traditional field-based, competency-based program of professional education for career and technical education (CTE) teachers and administrators in the state. The Temple Center provides these services for CTE educators in eastern Pennsylvania, Penn State services the central portion of the state, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania provides these services in the west.

Opportunities that fit your work and family lifestyle

Field-based faculty provide novice, intern CTE teachers with a combination of convenient classroom instruction near home or school once a week. A university faculty person visits teachers classrooms to assist with the implementation of that instruction. The Center delivers some portion of all its courses on-line so that busy teachers can access coursework at their convenience.

The Center also offers services that begin even before the CTE teacher enters the classroom, such as the necessary assessments that establish a prospective teachers competence in his or her field of expertise. These services span the CTE educators career, offering continuing technical and professional development, opportunities to earn initial and advanced degrees, CTE certificates for leadership positions, and a variety of other support services.
