Natural Science BA
Program Goals
Students in this major will develop a broad knowledge of science, through classroom instruction and laboratory investigations. Specialized knowledge in a primary field will be gained by taken courses in a concentration area. This major is appropriate for pre-med, pre-law and pre-pharm students, allied health majors and will provide content for students intending to teach grades 5-10. Learning goals are focused on skills that enable a broad understanding of science, the nature of science and its societal impact.
After completing this program, students should
- have the ability to process and evaluate effectively both theoretical and real-life quantitative data.
- be able to communicate using oral, written, or electronic media, and have the teamwork and leadership skills needed to recognize, isolate, and solve mathematical problems.
- be committed and open to continuous learning, new ideas, and be able to bring them to bear to help others.
Learning Objectives
After completing this program, students should
- have acquired a strong foundation in the traditional disciplines of science
- understand scientific methodology through laboratory investigation and study of science history and models
- understand how to use and evaluate scientific literature
- demonstrate the ability to discuss scientific issues that impact society
- demonstrate competency in scientific inquiry, writing and oral presentation
