User Registration

The Materials Research Facility is available to Temple University researchers (including faculty, staff, students) upon completing the User Registration Form; educators on Temple University who wish to incorporate demonstrations or hands-on usage into their class' lab experience; and external users via a purchase order mechanism.

 

Usage Rates

Fees are charged to recover maintenance, supply, and personnel costs related to the equipment. The rates are effective as of July 1, 2011.

Using Facility Instruments

•All users must register in order to get access to the instruments at Materials Research Facility.
•Only authorized personnel are allowed to operate the instruments at Materials Research Facility.
•To cancel a reservation , the user must do so at least 48 hours in advance to avoid incurring a user charge.
•Problems of the facilities or accessories must be reported to the lab staff. Troubleshooting by users is not allowed.
•Do not perform a task or use a piece of equipment for which you have not received proper training or are not authorized to use. When in doubt, ask the lab staff.
•Do not change the alignment of any instruments beyond what you have been told by facility Pis or lab staff.
•Repeated violation of the facility rules and regulations may result in withdrawal of access and use of the facility.

Using Facility Computers

•Users are not allowed to install any program on the computer associated with the instruments.
•The computers associated with the instruments are not intended to be used for long-term storage of the user’s data. We are not responsible for any data loss due to computer crashing, etc.

Safety and Hazard

•The following hazards will be found in the materials research laboratories

   X-Ray Sources  High Voltage Sources  Vacuum Systems  Electrical Appliances  Electronic Devices   Electrical Outlets

  Liquid Nitrogen  Cold Surfaces  Compressed Gases  Organic Solvents & Oils  Sharp  Tools

All users must observe the standard safety procedures that apply in any physical, chemical or electrical laboratory at all times.

•No smoking, eating, or drinking in the materials research laboratories.
•Keep the labs clean at all times. Clean all working areas at the end of your work period.
•Specimens are not to be stored or left in the materials research labs especially in the work areas.
