Do your Science Writing Skills need Polishing?

Science and Technology Journalism will explore the opportunities in the science and technology journalism marketplace, helping students develop their professional writing and research skills.The 4 credit graduate course will be offered in Temple's 2006 Summer I session. Upperclass undergraduates may register with permission of instructor.

The course will provide students with intensive practice in researching, writing, and editing science and technology articles for consumer magazines, newspapers, and professional/trade journals. Students will also read several leading science magazines and journals to understand requirements and style. We will also explore science writing for the Web and broadcast media.

Topics will cover the fields of biotechnology, social science, health care industry, natural and earth sciences, space and engineering.

Prerequisites

Must be a graduate student or upper level undergraduate with a minimum of two writing intensive courses as a prerequisite. Undergraduates who want to register for the course may do so as an independent study or special project. Faculty/staff or non-matriculated students who want to enroll in the course must do so through the Office of Continuing Education.
