Graduate Award for outstanding Teaching
Please give a detailed recommendation for a Graduate Teaching Assistant whom you wish to nominate to be honored by the College of Science and Technology for Outstanding Teaching.
Criteria for Distinguished Teaching
Although diverse talents and classroom styles go into good teaching, distinguished teachers in any field are those who consistently and exceptionally do the following:
- Demonstrate a command of the subject or the experimental apparatus
- Prepare their presentations and assignments carefully
- Are clear and rigorous in their presentations
- Make their expectations and basis for grading clear
- Challenge students intellectually
- Provide prompt and full feedback to students on their progress
- Encourage, motivate and inspire students to do their best work
Supporting Dossier Content
Individual nominees are free to arrange their dossiers in the way that best makes the case for their teaching. Dossier should include items such as the following:
- The nominee's curriculum vitae
- Sample course materials
- Student evaluations
- Reports on classroom visits by other faculty
- Supporting statements from at least two faculty members
- Letters of support from current students
- A separate biographical paragraph, written by an advisor or faculty member, which describes the nominee's achievements to be published in the College's Awards Ceremony program
