Department of Chemistry Announces Daniel Swern and Francis H. Case Award Recipients
The Chemistry Dept. is proud to announce this years Francis H. Case Award Recipient, Nikolay Dementev, as well as the three recipients of the Daniel Swern Award: Ali Eftekhari, Gopal Sirasani and Naresh Theddu. Both awards recognize excellence in research.
Application Fee Waived for Qualified Prospective Graduate Students
The department may waive the application fee of $50 upon review of copies of GRE/TOEFL scores and transcripts.
New grants for Professors Matsika and Shackman
Drs. Spiridoula Matsika and Jonathan Shackman recently received separate government grants funding their research.
Professor Bradford Wayland, expert in Inorganic Chemistry, to join the Temple Chemistry Department
I am moving from the University of Pennsylvania to join the Chemistry faculty at Temple University on July 1st, 2008. My Inorganic Chemistry research group in transition metal catalysis and polymer materials will move into newly renovated laboratory space at Temple during the summer of 2008.
Professor Marjatta Lyyra awarded the Lise Meitner Professorship at Lund University in Sweden.

Physics professor Dr. Marjatta Lyyra has been awarded the prestigious Lise Meitner Professorship at Lund University in Sweden. Awarded every three years to eminent female scientists who are role models to young women, the professorships were established in honor of Lise Meitner, an Austrian-Swedish physicist who was part of the team that discovered nuclear fission.

Chemistry Graduate Student, Kerisha Bowen, awarded UNESCO Young Women in Science Fellowship
Trinidad and Tobago's National Commission has selected Kerisha Bowen for a UNESCO Young Women in Science Fellowship for 2008. The award is designed to help promote women who are in their final stages of their Ph.D. or have recently received their Ph.D.

Chemistry hosts Philadelphia ACS Poster Session
The Department of Chemistry hosted the American Chemical Society’s 8th Annual Poster Session on January 24, 2008. With more than 90 posters presented by undergraduate and graduate students and attended by 200 students and faculty from area colleges and universities, it was one of the most successful Philadelphia ACS poster sessions.
