Nicholas J. Colella (BA '77, Phys) |
Nicholas J. Colella is a venture partner for Incubic, a venture capital fund in Menlo Park, Calif., that helps entrepreneurs establish technology companies. Incubic’s focus is in the life sciences, medical devices, research instrumentation, communications and other high-tech sectors.
After earning his bachelor’s degree in physics from Temple University, Colella went on to receive his master’s and doctoral degrees from Carnegie Mellon University. During his time at Carnegie Mellon, Colella was named a Mellon Institute Fellow. He also helped found the National Robotics Engineering Consortium and served on its original Advisory Board.
Prior to joining Incubic, Colella served on the senior executive team of Tessera Inc. and played a key role in the company’s turnaround, helping to grow its value to more than $2 billion. Before joining Tessera, Colella was chief technical officer and vice president of research and development at PolyStor Corporation, a lithium-ion battery company. He also co-founded the wireless communications company Angel Technologies Corporation, and was a senior-level executive at a strategic missile defense firm.
In addition to his role at Incubic, he is vice chairman of the Board of Ultracell Corporation. He also serves on the Science Advisory Board of Zyvex Corporation, a nanotechnologies company. He has been a member of the College of Science and Technology’s Board of Visitors since 2008.
