Introduction

During the past year, Computer Services has been evaluating Windows Vista to determine whether the new operating system is compatible with software packages used at Temple. Initially, a number of programs were found to be incompatible with Vista and Computer Services recommended against upgrading.

Computer Services has since concluded that although Vista is compatible with the majority of software used at Temple, significant problems still remain with some packages. As a result, Computer Services still recommends against using Vista in offices at the University.

If you wish to use Vista at home, Computer Services recommends Windows Vista Ultimate, which can be obtained (for work related purposes) from Computer Business Services at 215-204-5000. Before doing so, please make sure that your system meets the recommended hardware requirements by selecting on the left column Is My System Ready? Note: Do not attempt to upgrade a machine unless you are adept at software installations and troubleshooting.

If you have any further questions regarding Windows Vista, please contact the Computer Services Help Desk at 215-204-8000.

In addition, Computer Services encourages the use of Office 2007.  If you would like to use Office 2007, please review the information at the Office 2007 information site.
