TUsafesend
Frequently Asked Questions

What is TUsafesend?

TUsafesend is a Temple University resource that provides a secure method for transferring files containing confidential or other sensitive information. TUsafesend provides a safe, university-sanctioned alternative method to e-mail, which you should never use for sending sensitive information.

TUsafesend enables you to send up to 19 files at any one time. The total size limit of all the files is 6 GB. For security purposes, files remain encrypted and are stored on the system for 21 days. They are then automatically deleted.

TUsafesend provides a solution to the following scenarios:

How do I access TUsafesend?

To access TUsafesend, use your AccessNet username and password to log into TUportal or go to tusafesend.temple.edu.

What kind of data can I send?

You can use TUsafesend to securely share data that you and your recipients are currently authorized to access.

Note about HIPAA: You can use TUsafesend to securely share HIPAA (health care/patient information) data. This data should be transferred only if you and the recipients are authorized to see HIPAA data and it is stored in compliance with university HIPAA standards after being transported.

Also, remember that sharing data with someone who is not currently authorized is against university policy. (See the Personally Identifiable Information Guidelines and the Temple University Social Security Number Usage policy for more details.) If you have any questions about sharing, sending, or storing confidential information, please contact the Office of Information Security at 215-204-7088 or send email to ciso@temple.edu.

Can I request that someone drop-off a file?

If you have an AccessNet account and wish to ask someone outside of Temple to drop off files to you, you can make the process easier for them by sending a request. This eliminates the need for the person to go through a verification process. To send a request for a drop-off:

  1. Go to http://tusafesend.temple.edu.
  2. Log in with your AccessNet username and password.
  3. Click the Request a Drop-off button.
  4. Enter the recipient's name and e-mail address.
  5. Type an optional subject and note.
  6. Click Send the Request.

The recipient will receive an e-mail with a link. When the recipient clicks on the link, he or she is brought directly to the page to upload files.

Note: After you click Send the Request, the system will display a request code (e.g., tug omen pups). As an alternative to sending an e-mail link, you can send this request code to someone, which he or she can then use to drop-off a file.
