Using TUmail filters

To automate some of your organizational tasks, you can take advantage of TUmail filters. Depending on the volume and the type of mail you receive, using filters for some of your messages can help you manage your mail easily and efficiently.

Once you have set up a filter, remember that the action you set will be performed automatically. For example, if you set the filter to send all mail from a person or organization to a folder, don’t forget to check that folder for incoming mail. These messages will no longer appear in your Inbox.

The filter feature in TUmail enables you to:

Automate routine tasks

Automatically delete specified incoming messages

Create a filter that takes more than one action on a message

TUmail allows you to do two things to create your filter – designate which messages you wish to filter (Filter Conditions) and direct those messages on how you want to filter them (Filter Actions). This means you can filter some of your messages or all of your messages, whether it be forwarding them, deleting them or moving them to a particular folder.

To create a filter:

1. From the navigation menu on the left of the TUmail window, click on Options and then click on Message Filters.

2. In the Filter Conditions box, choose which messages you wish to filter under Select the conditions of your filter. If you want to filter all of your messages, select the second option, Apply to all incoming messages. Caution: Be aware that selecting Apply to all incoming messages will apply your filter to every mail message you receive.

If you want to filter just a select number of messages, choose the first option and select either If all of these conditions are met or If any of these conditions are met from the dialog box. Then, in the boxes that follow, you can select the specific conditions for filtering the messages.

3. Below, under Filter Actions, you can then set up what you want TUmail to do with your filtered messages, such as forwarding, moving, or deleting the messages. In the Move to dialog box, you can chose to which folder you wish to move your desired messages.

Caution:

As stated above, if you chose Apply to all incoming messages under Filter Conditions, every message that comes into your account will be filtered upon the action you give it. For example, if you select Delete and Apply to all incoming messages is selected, all of your messages will be deleted.

4. Once you are done customizing your filter, select OK. Your customized filter will then appear at the top of the Message Filters window. You can edit the filter by clicking on the Edit icon or delete the filter by clicking on the blue delete icon.
