Telephone & Internet

Telephone and Internet services are offered as amenities to residential students who live in University-owned facilities. Every bedroom on campus has one telephone jack and one Internet hookup for each resident. In all locations, students must provide their own true touch-tone telephones.

Using the University telephone service, students are able to do the following:

• receive incoming calls
• make free five-digit campus-to-campus calls
• make emergency 911 calls
• use a prepaid calling card to make local, toll-free, suburban, long-distance, and international calls

Voice mail will be provided to all residential students. To get voice mail, log into the getconnected.temple.edu Web site and click on the box indicating voice mail is desired. You will receive a confirmation e-mail acknowledging your request. This confirmation message includes instructions on how to initialize your voice mail as well as a temporary password that you will need for this process. The Telephone User's Guide provides instructions for using your telephone in the residence halls.

Getting services for off-campus University facilities

Because Temple leases and does not own Franklin House and Kardon, telephone and Internet services are different for students at these facilities. Similar to living in a private apartment or residence, students are responsible for establishing telephone and Ethernet connection service from outside companies. Students can contact Verizon at 1-800-640-4155 (within PA) or 1-800-840-5503 (outside PA) to set up local and long distance service. To offset this additional cost and responsibility, students assigned to Franklin House and Kardon receive a $100 reduction in their room rate per semester (pro-rated based upon occupancy).

Transferring service

To transfer telephone or Internet service to another room, do the following:

1. Log in to the getconnected.temple.edu Web site.
2. Click on moving to a new room.
3. If your new assignment appears in the box, click Continue.

Disconnecting service

If you are being released from your Housing license, you are required to complete the disconnection of telephone and Internet services on the getconnected.temple.edu Web site prior to checking out of the residence hall.

To disconnect telephone and Internet service during the semester, do the following:

1. Log in to the getconnected.temple.edu Web site.
2. Click on Terminate telephone and Internet service.

At the end of the academic year, the Office of Telecommunications will disconnect your telephone and Internet service. It is not necessary to log in to the getconnected.temple.edu Web site to terminate your service.
