Telephone Services

How much does telephone and Internet service cost?

Telephone service and high-speed Internet access are offered as amenities to residential students who live in University-owned facilities.

My room does not have a phone. What should I do?

Contact your Resident Director.

Will Temple’s switchboard operators give out my phone number?

By default, your phone number will be unlisted and will not be given out. If you would like to list your phone number so that Temple’s operators will give it out, log in to the Get Connected Web site and click on the option to list your number.

I am having problems with my phone. What number do I call to report the problem?

If you are experiencing problems with your telephone service, dial 4-HELP (4-4357) from any campus phone.

When I report a problem, how soon will it be fixed?

A technician tries to contact you within 30 minutes after reporting your problem. Sometimes a technician will be able to assist you immediately; other times a technician will try to make an appointment with you when you are available in your residential facility. The Office of Telecommunications usually corrects all problems within a 24-hour period.

How can I get my phone number?

You can learn your phone number by dialing #*113 on your phone in your residential facility.

How do I make international calls?

To make an international call, dial 9 + 011 and then follow the instructions on your prepaid calling card.

How do I make calls with my calling card?

To make a call with a calling card, dial 9 + 1 and then follow the instructions on your prepaid calling card.

Can I accept collect calls?

No, students cannot accept collect calls.

Voice Mail

How do I get voice mail?

Voice mail is provided to all residential students. To obtain voice mail, log in to the Get Connected Web site and click on the box indicating that voice mail is desired. You will receive a confirmation e-mail acknowledging your request. The confirmation message includes instructions on how to initialize your voice mail as well as a temporary password that you will need for this process.

What is voice mailbox initialization?

Voice mail initialization is the process through which you personalize your voice mailbox, including your greeting and password.

How do I initialize my voice mailbox?

You can initialize your voice mailbox by following a series of quick and easy steps.

How can I retrieve my voice mail messages?

You can retrieve your voice mail messages from any of the following:

  • Your residential hall room
    1. Use the shortcut by pressing *5.
    2. After hearing your name, enter your personal password.

  • A campus phone
    1. Press 1-2010.
    2. After hearing the welcome message, press the pound (#) key.
    3. Enter your five-digit mailbox number. You will hear your name.
    4. Enter your password. 

  • An off-campus phone
    Dial 215 204-2010. After hearing the welcome message, press the pound (#) key. Enter your five-digit mailbox number. You will hear your name. Enter your password. 

Are there any shortcuts for navigating through my voice mailbox?

Yes, the following shortcuts are available on the system:

  • Press 1-1 to hear a message from the beginning.

  • Press 3-3 to move to the end of the message.

  • Press 5 for envelope information which will give the details of the message, e.g., date, time, duration, and origin of the call, if it was placed from on-campus.

  • Press 6 to send a copy of a message to another subscriber on the voice mail system.

  • Press 3-3-9 to quickly save the message to the archives.

  • Press 3-3-7 to quickly erase the message.
    Note: If you erase a message, it cannot be retrieved.

  • Press # to skip a message; press ## to move into the archived messages.

  • Press 8 enables a reply to the message from a subscriber on the voice mail system.  Without dialing the extension, your response is returned to the sender.

  • Press 8-8 to reply to a voice mail message by automatically calling the sender.

How do I record/change my personal greeting? 

To record/change your personal greeting, perform the following:

1. Enter the voice mail system by dialing 1-2010 (on-campus) or 215-204-2010 (off-campus).
2. Press the pound (#) key to indicate that you have a mailbox on the system.
3. When you are prompted, enter your five-digit mailbox extension and personal password.
4. Then, do the following:

  • Select 4 for personal options.

  • Select 3 for greetings.

  • Select 1 for personal greeting.

  • Select 2 to record a personal greeting.

  • Select 1 to record a greeting for when you are unable to answer your phone.

  • Select 2 to record a greeting for when you are on the phone.

5. Record the greeting and press # when finished.

How do I record an extended absence greeting?

To record an extended absence greeting, do the following:

1. Enter the voice mail system by dialing 1-2010 (on-campus) or 215-204-2010 (off-campus). 
2. Press the pound (#) key to indicate that you have a mailbox on the system.
3. When you are prompted, enter your five-digit mailbox extension and personal password.
4. Then, proceed as follows:

  • Select 4 for Personal Options.

  • Select 3 for Greetings.

  • Select 2 for Extended Absence Greeting.

  • Record the greeting and press # when finished. You can also press 1 to replay your greeting or press * to re-record, if necessary.

How do I change my password?

To change your password, do the following:

1. Enter the voice mail system by dialing 1-2010 (on-campus) or 215-204-2010 (off-campus).
2. Press the pound (#) key to indicate that you have a mailbox on the system.
3. When you are prompted, enter your five-digit mailbox extension and personal password.
4. Then, proceed as follows:

  • Select 4 for Personal Options.

  • Select 2 for Administrative Options.

  • Select 1 for General Options.

  • Select 1 for Passwords.

  • Select 1 for Personal Password.

    • To hear the current password, press 0.

  • Enter a password containing between six and fifteen digits and then press # when finished.

What do I do if I forget my password?

If you forget your password, please call 4HELP (4-4357).
