Cellular ServiceThe Office of Telecommunications is pleased to announce that Verizon Wireless is the exclusive provider of cellular service for the University. All requests concerning cellular service for University-business will be handled by The Office of Telecommunications. The Office of Telecommunications can assist the University community with the following cellular requests:
To facilitate these requests, please complete a Departmental Request for Cellular Equipment and Service form. The Office of Telecommunications is available for consultation concerning equipment and plan selection and can be reached via the information below. The University has adopted a policy on The Procurement and Use of Cellular Equipment Supplied by Temple University. The complete policy can be found at http://policies.temple.edu and it applies to all employees with University-supplied cellular service. Employees are required to identify and reimburse the University for all charges and/or minute detractions incurred as a result of personal calls on University cellular telephones. For more information on the reimbursement criteria and process, please read a letter from the Vice President of Computer and Information Services on the personal use of cell phones. Temple University students: Please click here to purchase Verizon Wireless cellular service and equipment online. Please note that service and equipment discounts do not apply to students. Equipment A wide variety of equipment options is open to the University community. These options range from cellular telephones offered promotionally at no cost to high-end data enabled devices. VIEW EQUIPMENT OPTION AND PRICING Cellular Service Plans Departments are asked to select monthly minute plans commensurate with current and/or anticipated usage. All voice plans currently include unlimited night and weekend as well as unlimited IN-Network minutes (calls to other Verizon Wireless subscribers.) Please note, however, that the unlimited IN-Network calling promotion is a temporary offer from Verizon Wireless. When this offer expires, 1000 IN-Network minutes will be included with the voice plans. All America's Choice BusinessShare plans pool at the University-level. Accordingly, overages in any given department are anticipated to be offset by underutilization in other departments, thereby reducing usage expenses. Please note that the Local DigitalChoice plans do not participate in the University pool. For data devices, including PC cards, the selection of a data plan is also required. Data-related use of the equipment does not detract from monthly voice minute allotments. Note that additional features, such as text messaging, are also available. The various service plan options for America's Choice BusinessShare and Local Digital Choice plans are detailed in the following tables. Note: America's Choice BusinessShare Voice and Data Plans include unlimited nights and weekends. Additional minutes may be added to a plan, based on current promotions.
Note: Where applicable, Local DigitalChoice plans qualify for a 15% discount. The following table identifies the Data Plans available with Verizon Wireless.
*For PDA/Smartphone devices, a data plan as well as a voice plan is required if the user intends to use both services. Verizon Wireless offers a variety of optional features which are listed in the following table.
*Per Text, Picture & Video Message Overage rate: $0.10 (send)/$0.10 Personal Verizon Wireless Cellular Service for Temple Employees An added benefit of the University's agreement with Verizon Wireless is the extension of a 15% discount to Temple employees. This discount applies to all monthly access fees exceeding $34.99. In addition, Temple employees also enjoy a 25% discount on cellular accessories. To be eligible for these discounts, the account must be in the Temple employee's name. Discounts will not be granted at Verizon Wireless retail outlets. All discounted service and equipment must be obtained as described below. Please note: Students are not eligible for the Verizon Wireless discounts however a link is provided below for online purchases of Verizon Wireless services and equipment. Note: Temple University will not receive any account information or copies of personal invoices. Verizon Wireless Service and Equipment Temple employees with existing Verizon Wireless cellular service can also use the Extranet to register their mobile telephone number(s) for the discount.
