If you’re in a hurry or not having your best writing day, try two Microsoft Word short cuts:
- Having trouble finding the right word?
On a Windows computer, right-click on the word in question to get instant access to synonyms and other options. If you select a synonym, Word will automatically insert it. (If you're using a Mac and don't have a right mouse button, press Control-click to see the options.)
- Using text from another document but the font and style don't match your text?
Try the Format Painter tool, shown as a paint brush icon under the Home menu on the left on a Windows computer.
On the Mac, look for the paint brush icon in the top middle of the menu bar. (If you don't see the icon, go to View and under Toolbar, click on Standard Toolbar.)
To copy the format, click on text that has the formatting you want and then click on the Painter tool. You'll notice that the cursor now turns into a paint brush when it is near text. Next, move the cursor to the beginning of the text that you want to change, hold down the mouse button, and drag the paint brush across it.
