Play it Safe When You Share Files with Sensitive Information

When you need to share a file with someone that includes confidential or sensitive information, don't send it by email. Email is not a secure transport method and it's against University policy to use it for transferring these types of files.

Instead, use TUsafesend. With TUsafesend, you can upload the file and the application will notify the person through an email message that the file is ready for pickup. The file is encrypted during the upload and download transfer. Also, TUsafesend includes an audit trail so you will know the date and time the file was picked up as well as the IP address of the computer that accessed the file. The IP address gives information on the location of the computer.

See the TUsafesend website to learn more or to start using the program. Note, however, that you can't use TUsafesend to share files that include Protected Health Information (PHI).

If you have any questions, contact the Help Desk through the TUhelp web site at or call 215-204-8000.
