Installing Temple's Norton AntiVirus
Software on a Mac



I. Uninstalling Your Existing Antivirus Software

Before you install the Norton Antivirus software, you must uninstall any existing copies of antivirus software on your computer. Your computer may not function properly if your existing antivirus software is not removed before you install this software.

Antivirus software may include the following:
• Norton Antivirus
• McAfee VirusScan (also known as Virex)
• Any other antivirus software

1. Under the File menu on the top toolbar, click on Find. When the window opens, enter the name of your current antivirus software. When the results are given, drag ALL relating antivirus software items into the Trash bin.

2. Close all of your programs and restart your computer.

II. Installing Temple’s Norton AntiVirus Software

After you have removed any existing antivirus software and restarted your computer, you are now ready for the installation process.

Note for users who have enabled Administrative login rights:
Before you begin the installation process, have your Administrator login and password ready. You will be prompted for this information when you insert the CD.

1. Insert the Norton AntiVirus Installer CD into your CDROM drive.

2. After a few seconds, the Temple logo will appear. If this does not happen after one minute, perform one of the following steps depending on your version of Norton AntVirus:

  • Double-click on the yellow TEMPLE SAV 2.0 icon on your Desktop, and then double-click on the Install Symantec Antivirus icon, or

  • Double-click on the Norton Antivirus 9.0 icon on your Desktop, and then double-click on the Start Here icon.

3. You will then be prompted to accept the disclaimer. In order to install the Symantec Antivirus software, you must agree to the terms of use. If you agree with the terms, click on I Agree.

4. Once you’ve agreed to the terms of use, you will be prompted to choose the software version appropriate for your computer. Click the appropriate button for your computer's operating system.

Note:  If you use the classic mode feature that allows you to run OS 9, only install this software in OS X by selecting the OS X option.

5. After approximately 10 seconds, the Symantec Installer will start. As the installer program runs, accept the defaults as you are prompted. You may be required to restart your computer again in order to complete installation.

III. Running LiveUpdate

After you have installed Norton Antivirus, use the LiveUpdate tool to download and install the latest virus definition files to your computer. To run LiveUpdate:

1. Make sure you are connected to the Internet.

2. Click on the Symantec icon on the upper right corner of the screen.

3. Click on LiveUpdate and then on Update everything now.
