On Saturday, February 3, we sent you an urgent e-mail message informing you about a serious Windows virus outbreak at Temple University. In the message, we requested that you immediately upgrade your Symantec virus software to version 10.1.4.4000 to prevent the virus from spreading.
If you wish to continue using the Temple network, your Symantec software must be at version 10.1.4.4000. You need to upgrade your software even if you are not currently experiencing any problems with your computer. Students who do not perform the upgrade will lose general Internet access and will need to go to antivirus.temple.edu to upgrade their software. Unfortunately, we have to take this measure because unprotected systems continue to spread the viruses thereby jeopardizing Temple’s network at large.
Two Simple Steps for Upgrading to Symantec 10.1.4.4000
1. Find out the current version of your antivirus program by double-clicking on the yellow Symantec shield in your system tray located at the bottom right corner of your PC. If you are running version 10.1.4.4000, your computer is fine and you don’t need to take any further action. If you are not running 10.1.4.4000, continue to step 2.
2. To download and install the upgrade, go to the following Temple web site:
antivirus.temple.edu
Instructions for installation are provided on the site.
Please note that because this is a Windows-related virus infection, Macintosh and Linux users are NOT impacted.
If you have any questions, please contact the Computer Services Help Desk at 215-204-8000, send e-mail to help@temple.edu, or stop by our Office located on the 1st floor of the TECH Center. Please be advised that the Help Desk is receiving many calls about the outbreak, so your patience is greatly appreciated.
