Temple University was hit with two phishing attacks yesterday. One of the two phishing attacks was particularly sophisticated as the phisher created a duplicate website to TUmail by stealing our graphics. The following is a copy of the scam e-mail that was sent out:
Subject: URGENT SECURITY UPDATE
Mandatory Security Update From: Information Technology Services Temple University.

Due to the increase in spam emails, we have just upgraded to a super Webmail for your support and security. It is important that you login to your account immediately to make sure that your account information is still active and up to date.
To login to your Webmail, follow the link below:

Note that this message was sent to all TU Mail users and it is mandatory to follow.

If you received the e-mail shown above, please do not respond to it. The link in the e-mail will take you to the phisher’s website. I have blocked the current link to the fraudulent website from on campus but it is still possible to reach it from other networks. I have also contacted a service that will have the fraudulent website shut down. However, this could take up to 24 hours.
Unfortunately, if you clicked the link in the e-mail, you will need to change your password immediately. If you are not sure if you have gone to the site, check your browser history and look for a link listed as temple.alpha2008.info. This is the address of the fraudulent site. To change your password, use our TUsecure website at accounts.temple.edu. If you have concerns or cannot change your password, please let the Help Desk know by calling 215-204-8000.
For your protection: Remember to never share your password nor any personal information such as Social Security number. Temple University and any other legitimate organization will not request this information from you via an e-mail message. Never provide personal information except as required for a transaction that you have initiated.
Thank you. |
