Setting Up Your Residence Hall
Computer for Internet Access

Get Connected Spring 2012

Internet service is an amenity, which is included with the price of your room.

On Monday, January 16, Computer Services staff will be on-site in the residence halls to assist you with getting your computer connected to Temple's network. For more information, refer to the Move-In Schedule.

Connecting to the Internet

Wired Connection

  • If you used the Internet last semester and have the same computer and room assignment, your Internet service will continue to work. Just reconnect your computer to the network jack you used last semester. Your telephone and voice mail service should still be active as well.

  • If you did not use the Internet last semester, or have a new computer, or have a different room assignment, you will need to go through the Get Connected process, as follows:

    1. Connect your computer to the network jack closest to your assigned bed.

    2. Go to http://getconnected.temple.edu.

    3. Select Request Internet Service and follow the prompts.

Wireless Connection

  • If you used the TUresnet or TUresnetextra wireless network last semester and have the same computer or device, your Internet service will continue to work. Just reconnect to the TUresnet or TUresnetextra wireless network.

  • If you have a Windows or Mac computer and did not use the wireless network last semester or have a different Windows or Mac computer, perform the Get Connected process listed above for a Wired Connection. Then register and connect to the TUsecure or TUsecureextra wireless networks.

  • If you have a device other than a Windows or Mac computer and have not yet connected to the TUresnet or TUresnetextra wireless network, see the steps to register and connect. Please note that Computer Services does not support or recommend the setting up of wireless printers at this time.

Additional Information

  • For an overview of the procedure for connecting and applying for Internet services, see the Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Read the Setting up Your Residence Hall Internet Connection for Spring 2012 memo from Computer Services.

  • Wondering if your computer is Ethernet ready? Check to see if there is a port on the back or side of your computer shown with a symbol similar to the following:

PC Ethernet symbol Mac Ethernet symbol
PC Ethernet jack Mac Ethernet jack

If you do not see these symbols, review the operating system instruction sheets listed below to determine if you have an Ethernet port.
