Turnitin:  More than a Plagiarism Prevention Application

Turnitin is a web-based plagiarism prevention application that can be accessed within a Blackboard course to deter plagiarism.  Turnitin also serves as an educational tool to teach students how to work with sources and ways that they can improve their citation and paraphrasing skills.  Turnitin features:

  • OriginalityCheck: Ensures original work by checking submitted papers against 40+ billion web pages, 300+ million student papers, and leading library databases and publications and more.  Turnitin serves as a valuable application for instructors – giving them ways to gain valuable insight into students` sources while ensuring that students are aware of proper research and citation to support the development of their academic writing skills.
  • GradeMark: Facilitates online marking of student writing  that can be used to provide meaningful feedback to students.
  • PeerMark:  Allows students to read, review, and evaluate one or many papers submitted by their classmates
