Outlook 2010: Managing Email and Calendars
Prerequisites: Microsoft Office 2010:  Getting Started with the Basics

This seminar introduces the use of the Outlook 2010 calendar tools, preferences, and options to configure, schedule, modify and organize personal events or appointments.  Discover how to make use of the Outlook features to generate, organize and track personal projects.  Beyond the use of Outlook to manage your personal appointments and projects, collaborative techniques will be introduced to cover methods to invite other Outlook participants to meetings or events and respond to meeting requests.

Illustrator CS5: Illustrating Innovative Web Design
Prerequisites: Dreamweaver CS5: Templates, Graphics, and Style Sheets

Adobe Illustrator is a design tool for working with text, color, shapes, and textures, and it is particularly suited to making your web site stand apart from the rest.  In this 60-minute seminar, we’ll explore a few different ways we can use Illustrator to create web elements, such unique-looking text boxes and headers. Then we’ll put them into a web site using Adobe Dreamweaver and cascading style sheets.  Learn some of the basic features that this powerful design program puts at your fingertips.

Audacity, The Audio Production Solution
Prerequisites:  None

Audacity is one of the most widely-used applications for music and audio production.  It works across multiple platforms, gives access to premium audio editing tools, and enables the user to output to a variety of file types.  Oh, and did I mention it’s free?  In this 60-minute seminar you will examine the interface of Audacity and learn some basic editing tools, such as cutting out mistakes and applying reverb to a track.  See the power of open source programming firsthand!

Flash CS5 in a Flash!
Prerequisites: Dreamweaver CS5: Getting Started, or equivalent

Flash is the media technology that is ubiquitous in our lives.  Whether viewing YouTube videos on a Flash player, interacting with Flash content on a website, or watching a television show produced in Flash, we are exposed to it whether we know it or not.  In this 90 minute workshop,  explore some of the fundamental concepts behind Flash, examine the world of “tweening,” and create a simple photo slideshow that can be embedded

Podcast Like a Pro in 60 Minutes!
Prerequisites:  None

Translate your ideas from the written page to your own mp3 using the same production tools that professionals use.  This 60-minute seminar is an overview of Garageband, Audacity, and Protools, and how you can get started in producing your own podcast. Green initiatives and a desire for increased efficiency have impacted our day-to-day collection of information.  What just a few years ago would have required a paper form, complete with a collection system, can now be done using electronic forms with online collection.  This seminar will examine two tools that can create electronic forms and bring the power of electronic data collection to you. Google:  Collaborate through Google Docs in 60 Minutes
Prerequisites: Must have a TUmail Powered by Google Account OR Gmail Account

Your TUmail powered by Google account gives you free access to Google Docs, an easy-to-use online word processor, spreadsheet, presentation editor, and form application to create documents online, at any time, and from any computer connected to the Internet.

In 60 minutes, find out how to create new documents from scratch or upload existing documents, and share them instantly with others in order to work collaboratively online and in real time. Please note registration closes at 12 am on the day of this event.

Participate with us at http://breeze.temple.edu /googledocs using a computer that is connected to the Internet.  At the Enter as a guest window, select the Enter as a Guest radio button, and then enter your full name in the Type your name: window in order to enter the live classroom.  After you enter the live classroom, please be sure to read the instructions on the screen and turn up the volume on your computer speaker.

Welcome to Windows 7 – a significant upgrade to the Windows line of operating system!  This hands-on seminar provides an overview of the features that you will find in Windows 7.  Take a quick peek at your desktop; use Aero Peek to make all open windows transparent.  View and navigate the retooled taskbar, work with free-floating gadgets, jump lists and more!

Web Development

Contribute CS5 for Content Contributors
Prerequisites: Word Basics or equivalent.  Experience using web browsers

Adobe Contribute CS5 is a software application that enables content authors to quickly and easily update existing web sites with minimal technical expertise.  Temple University staff responsible for publishing and updating web pages to their departmental or organizational web site will become familiar with the workflow process and definition of user roles that comprise the development and maintenance of a web site.  Participants will gain experience with the use of Contribute CS5 through hands-on practice with content management tools to create, add, and edit content for use on a centrally controlled standards-based environment. Dreamweaver CS5: Getting Started with Website Design
Prerequisites: Experience using Web browsers.  Experience using Microsoft Word or equivalent.

Dreamweaver is the industry-leading web development application from Adobe.  Dreamweaver CS5 contains tools to make it possible for users who have minimal to no experience with html code to easily develop and maintain standards-based Web sites and applications.  Getting Started with Web Site Design introduces the tools and features of Dreamweaver CS5 to build a basic web site.  Through hands-on practice, seminar participants will be guided through the development of setting up a site to organize and store web pages, formatting techniques, inserting and manipulating graphics, navigational schemes, and publishing a site.

Dreamweaver CS5: Working with Templates and Cascading Style Sheets
Prerequisites: Dreamweaver CS5: Getting Started with Website Design

This seminar continues to deliver the features available to design a Web site using Dreamweaver CS5.   Seminar participants will be guided through the techniques to seamlessly create and edit a web site through the use of templates and style sheets.   The seminar will also provide the methods to integrate multimedia effects and specially formatted web graphics to enhance accessibility and user interactivity. Google: Create Your Google Site in 60 Minutes
Prerequisites: Must have a TUmail Powered by Google Account OR Gmail Account

Google Sites is a free service provided through Google that will enable you to easily create and share Web pages in order to collaborate on a team project, plan meetings and activities, or to stay connected with your family members.  This 60 minute seminar will show you how to create and customize your Google Site, create sub-pages to keep your content organized, and grant your team mates access in order to work on a joint project.  Please note registration closes at 12 am on the day of this event.

This 3 hour hands-on course offers an introduction to working with Excel 2010, an electronic spreadsheet program that people use for storing, organizing, and manipulating data.   By the end of this seminar, you will be able to navigate through a spreadsheet, enter and edit data, and enter formulas for simple calculations.  Apply formatting techniques to make your worksheet more organized and professional.  Please note registration closes the day before this event at midnight
