Scanning Text

Step 1: Setup

  1. Before turning on the computer, turn on scanner by pressing the power button located in lower right hand corner of the scanner.
  2. Power up the computer by pressing the power button on the front of the CPU..
  3. Insert your storage media (floppy disk or zip cartridge) into the appropriate drive.

Step 2: Position document

  1. If scanning one page or just a few pages, open the scanner lid, place the page in the upper right corner face-down on the scanner glass, and close the lid of the scanner.
  2. If you have multiple pages to scan, place no more than 15 to 20 pages into the document feeder found on the lid of the flat bed scanner. Position the document so the text is facing up and the pages are even with the upper right hand corner of the feeder.
  3. When using the document feeder make sure you position the lever found in the lower right hand corner of the lid in the #3 position.

Step 3: Scan

  1. Open the Start menu, by clicking on the Start button in lower left hand corner of the computer screen.
  2. Start Microsoft Word by choosing Microsoft, then selecting Microsoft Word.
  3. Select Acquire text from the File menu. The scanner will scan the page, then the Automatic Processing dialog box will appear.
  4. If you have more pages to scan, click on Scan More Pages to continue the scanning process.  If you are finished scanning, click on Stop Scanning Pages.

Step 4: Proofread your document

Since the scanner may not always read characters completely accurately, you need to proofread your new Microsoft Word document carefully.

  1. Run the spell checker by selecting Spelling located in the menu labeled Tools

Step 5: Save your document

  1. From the File menu, select Save. The Save As dialog box will appear.
  2. Select the location by clicking on the down arrow located to the right of the Save in: box. (Examples include A Drive, Desktop, or C drive)
  3. Type the name of your document in the box labeled File name:
  4. Click on the Save button.
