These instructions assume that you have a FrontPage 98 web created on your local computer that you wish to transfer to a UNIX account.
Note- To use FrontPage 98 to edit a web page that resides in a UNIX account, you must first download the web pages to your local computer. Once on your local computer, you can edit and add web pages within Front Page. Click here for instructions on downloading web pages from a UNIX account to your local computer so that you can edit them.
Start Netscape Navigator.
Type in the following URL in the netsite
location box:
ftp://your full email address
For example:
ftp://jsmith@astro.ocis.temple.edu
Press [Enter]. You will be prompted for your UNIX account password.
Type your password and press the OK button.
Your account directory path will appear at
the top of the browser window. For example:
Current directory is /home/a076/jsmith
Click on the public_html directory located in your UNIX account.
The directory path for your web pages will
appear at the top of the browser window.Write down this path for use in Step 2 below. For
example:
Current directory is /home/a076/jsmith/public_html
Note- If you do not see a public_html directory in
your account, you will have to create one before you can continue. Call the Help Desk at
215-204-8000 or the ISC at 215-204-2777 or 215-204-8529 for further assistance with this
step.
Select File, then Publish FrontPage Web.
In the Publish window, choose the More Webs button. (After this initial time, when you get to this point, you will just choose the location you want to publish to from the drop-down list.)
In the Please specify the location to which you wish to publish your FrontPage Web window, type in the URL of the new web page, (i.e.- astro.ocis.temple.edu/~jsmith ), then press the OK button.
In the Publish window, notice the new path in the gray part of the window just below the white drop-down window, beginning with "http:// ".
Uncheck Publish changed pages only for your initial upload, then press the OK button.
In the Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard window, enter the name of the UNIX server in the FTP Server Name box, (i.e.- astro.ocis.temple.edu ).
Press the [Tab] key to
jump to the Directory Path box, and type in the full path to the public_html
directory in the account you are uploading to. For example:
/home/a076/jsmith/public_html
Press the Next button.
Type in your user name and password in the appropriate boxes in the Wizard window, and press the Finish button. A message box will appear to indicate the transferring of your web pages to your UNIX account.
