On Friday, May 16, Blackboard will be upgraded from version
7.3 to version 8. The upgrade will begin at 6:00PM on Friday
evening, and Blackboard will be unavailable during this
time. Provided the upgrade process goes smoothly, the system
will be back online by 8:00AM on Saturday.
The main difference in version 8 is the Gradebook, which
is now called the Grade Center. There are several new enhancements
including the ability to:
- Add grades directly into the Grade Center page
- Send e-mail from the Grade Center page
- Add calculated columns within the Grade Center page
- View Grade Center data that matches defined criteria
such as group membership or performance
If you use the Blackboard Gradebook, please export your
Gradebook as a backup or archive. Exporting makes a copy
of your Gradebook and stores it on your local hard drive.
It will also allow you to open the Gradebook in Excel so
you will be able to work on your grades while the system
is being upgraded, if you desire. Instructions on how to
export your Gradebook are provided at
the end of this message.
If you have questions about exporting your Gradebook or
would like an overview of the new features in version 8,
please contact or visit one of the Instructional Support
Centers. The locations are listed below.
- Ambler Campus – Room 111, Ambler Learning Center,
267-468-8393
- Health Sciences Campus – Suite 112, Medical Research
Building, 215-707-7702
- Main Campus – Room 110, TECH Center, 215-204-0789
In addition, there are online tutorials available on Blackboard’s
Release 8 web site at http://www.blackboard.com/release8,
and an online recording of the "Preview of Blackboard
8" ITUG event is available at: http://isc.temple.edu/ITUG.
Have a great summer.
