Blackboard
Temple University offers all Faculty the ability to use the online course manangement system Blackboard as a standardized tool for commnuicating with and distributing materials to their students.
Blackboard
is accessible via TUportal.
It can be accessed at the address http://tuportal.temple.edu where
you can login and manage your Blackboard Courses.
If you
prefer, you can also connect to Blackboard directly without going
through TUportal by using the address http://blackboard.temple.edu.
Blackboard 8 is now available
Blackboard was upgraded from version 7.3 to version 8 on Monday, May 26.
The main difference in version 8 is the Gradebook, which is now called the Grade Center. There are several new enhancements including the ability to:
- Add grades directly into the Grade Center page
- Send e-mail from the Grade Center page
- Add calculated columns within the Grade Center page
- View Grade Center data that matches defined criteria such as group membership or performance
In addition, release 8 provides enhancements to:
- Self and Peer Assessments, which enable students to review and grade their own work by following key criteria set by their teacher
- SafeAssign, a tool to help students learn crucial citation and rules while helping faculty members ensure originality of work
- Blackboard Scholar, which enables faculty to find and share education-related resources with peers

Blackboard Communities
If you would like to create a Blackboard community for your department, organization or project, please contact the ISC at 1-8529. In order to expedite your request, please have the following information available:
- An explanation/justification for why the Blackboard Community is needed
and what it
will be used for. - The names and contact information of the individual(s)
who will be managing the
Community. - A description of who will be enrolled into the Community,
(for example, all Temple
University graduate students enrolled in the MBA/MS degree program).
- An approximate number of users who will need to be enrolled into
the Community.
- The date when the Community is needed.
Courtesy Accounts
To obtain a “Courtesy Account” for instructors, students, or other users who are not directly affiliated with Temple University, but need access to a Blackboard course on our system, please contact the Computer Services Help Desk at 215-204-8000.
