Project Enterprise is a major Temple University-wide initiative to integrate and upgrade all major administrative systems into a consolidated, state-of-the-art database-driven infrastructure based on SunGard's Higher Education Integrated Digital Campus platform. This $38 million, five-year Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation will replace Temple's aging mainframe systems including the Financial Management System (FMS), the Human Resources System (HRS), and the Student Information System (ISIS), as well as numerous other sub-systems that have been developed over the last 25 years.
The new system implementation will have a dramatic impact on how the University conducts business. To ensure cross-functional participation, over 150 representatives from University-wide academic and administrative offices are committed to working on the project.
An executive committee representing a range of key Temple academic and administrative departments is directing the project. One of the committee’s early tasks was to select a company that would provide the applications to Temple’s old systems. This decision was a 12-month process for the committee and Gartner Inc., the firm hired to ensure Temple would get the best product available. After careful research, consideration of the features and site visits to see other universities’ systems, the executive committee selected SunGard's Banner software which is used by more than 1,300 schools, colleges and universities across the country.
The new platform will be based on modern database management software (Oracle) with a centralized data repository. The software is vendor supported and conforms to industry standards so there will be less need for system modifications. The vendor also provides periodic upgrades to keep the system current with changes in laws, regulations, industry practices and changing technology. |
